Olives

Real Fast Food

Not the splendid Nigel Slater book which every student should own but Olives, the noblest fruit, both quick and now also sustaining me during days of 5/2 Intermittent Fasting (I.F.).

Whats the big secret ? calyxes, capers and other cra....stuff

There are certain ingredients which are able to lift food further or evoke a cuisine far more than they have any reasonable right to. Fresh (and then I freeze them) lime leaves transport me to Thailand, fennel seed added to fried sausage meat flies me to the Far East and Sumac shuffles and levers me towards the Levant.

Barcelona Part 3 - the dramatic conclusion

For the final evening in Barcelona we met a friend who was psychotically adamant we should go to to Quimet & Quimet.

70's food revival

I was on Christening duty last Sunday, godfather no less, chosen according to his dad as a reliable source of food. As usual struggling to find a present so lovely wife bailed me out suggesting Royal Mint commemorative coins; they mark the big occasions and there's always something going on so I'm sorted for the next 18 years at which point my godson can either become a collector or tear open all the pouches and, with the likely effects quantitative easing, buy a pint.

Dogs Dinner

I have been wondering why my food photos look rubbish and I’ve identified 2 main reasons;

  1. I want my meal on the plate and in my mouth ASAP in the best condition to pay correct deference to the food and consume it as close to an ideal state as possible.
  2. By the time I decide to send someone a photo because my meal is tasting delicious I’ve eaten quite a lot, and sometimes, all of it.
